I don't know what model of BMW this was but I'd want a main dealer repair on a fairly new high-end car too - otherwise the resale value will be affected.

And if it is a leased car, and the repair is spotted, you can guarantee the guy or his employer will get a refurb charge at least as much as a main-dealer quote.
