Get representation is the best thing as they maybe able to get him off an automatic ban by saying needed for work purposes or home purposes ie baby on the way.

If they cant do that then a reduced ban and fine maybe the way forward. Or highjer fine so no ban.

I collected 12 points in 3 years and got a £350 fine and 3 month ban.

A mate of mine got caught doing 114mph in a 70 on the A127 and he got a £250 and 6 points!!!

A mate at work got caught doing 92 in a 50 and he got a 3 month ban and £150

Its all different but getting representation will help alot.
