Just do it is my advice, still excellent cars despite being tractor drive(4wd) ha ha!!
No seriously 2wd at power is a hell of a lot more of a handful than 4wd.
So long as you're not going over around 350bhp or thereabouts won't break the bank, and servicing diy freindly, parts very reasoanble too.
My 2wd engine is in bits at the mo having clocked 200,937 miles on original bore/pistons/crank/shells etc, without a shadow of doubt they can be excellent daily drivers, IF set up correctly, mine was everyday driver returning over 40mpg on a run, but if modding I would set aside some money for mapping, I chose the alternate route of aftermarket ecu, and have never looked back, some just like to have bits for pub ammo, and pay over the odds for bits not needed.
