I'm not sure what is still driven when it's not switched on, but there will still be a loss, and if it's anything like the unit I re-fitted to an old bristol on work experience, it'll weigh a tonne, mounted quite far in front of the front wheels.
I didn't think it would be as cheap as £40 for a re-gas, but it's still money I could spend on somethin I want.
