Why do people get os hung up on megapixels for camera performance?

You can buy some piece of crap camera on bay with 12mp for about £15 but a good quality 3mp camera would blow it away.

The new iPhone records video in HD and has a 5 mp camera, unless you want to blow pictures up to poster size I'm sure it'll be a decent camera. I'd bet a pound to a pinch of shit it'll be better than other 5mp camera phones out there but people will always just look at the headline numbers!
