probably just a sensor
not worth giving up on a car if it's only going to cost a few quid to put right

plug a tester into the abs plug and see what the fualt code comes up with
more thatn likely to be a front sensor though, most of the ones i've seen tend to have either come loose and the tyre has chaffed them or have started to crack at the point where they come out of the hub
white furring will point you in at least some sort of direction as they tend to go open curcit
there is a resistance/voltage test you can do across the pins to see for sure, but i'm not sure what the values are
