Length and size IS important as is the exhaust gas speed.

That was my old exhaust manifold...new one is equal length.
I put it down to equal length not being as nessesary on turbo charged engines as it is on NA however even on turbo charged engine's it will help it breath a little better and make a better balance through all the cylinders.
BTW - Nice to see a good bit of DIY...well done mate!
