Default changing the timing belt

Just wondering if anyone can help. having never changed a timing belt before i was after some advice.

I have the engine and gearbox out of the car. I obviously need to get the crankshaft pulley off.

I have put the gearbox in 5th and need to get the retaining bolt out.

Do you have any tips on locking everything up to prevent everything just turning when I go to loosen the nut?

I was thinking of welding some bar to 2 19mm sockets and placing this across the nuts on the cam shaft pulleys to lock it all up.

OR

should I refit the engine and do it when it's back in so I can ensure it won't move.

Any thoughts / tips would be welcome. I've bought one of thise cheap 12v impact wrenches after reading an older post on here, so I'm hopeful removing the nut won't be a problem when everything is locked up.

Cheers

Steve
