So my Escort GTi failed it MOT on excessive play in rear wheel bearing (near-side). Today I have replaced the rear wheel bearings and am 100% confident that all bearing cup are seated properly (have done this job a few times before). I have tightened the rear hub nut up to the specified torque setting (192 lb/ft), but when put the wheel back on there is still the same amount of excessive play.

So what could possibly be causing this movement?
