Sounds daft but it is easy to end up without any mates, either they move away, move on or you get different interests and priorities and suddenly there is noone you call a mate.

Best bet is as said, get out to a few meets etc, like minded people going for a beer and chatting about cars and shite.

Nothing gay or geeky about meeting up for a for beers with people who have similar interests to you.
