update lol.

well i done a comp test, and as i put in new valves it did NOT adjust the valve clearences on the rocker arms, as ive never worked on an engine without hydraulic tappets, i didnt think of it!!

but as i was doing this i noticed that the inlet valve of no 1 was way too low and not in contact with the rocker.

the valve was bent, so head off again and i removed the valve.

i have ordered some more valves again and the missus dad has took the head into his work cos there is an engine balancer on his site who used to build engines etc and is gonna check it for us

cheers pugo for the explanation

although we need to set the engine up with no belt on, basically the way i done it the 1st time was i cranked the cam over by hand, until the inlet valves on cyl 1 had opended then shut, then cranked it a bit more until the timing marks lined up, that would indicate that that it was in the right position for TDC would it not?

ill do it the way pugo has, prolly be tomoz or thursday now.

cheers for the help guys.
