thanks for that mate. i am looking at a new standard tank at the moment that gav diamond has got
Also I am pretty sure its the returning fuel that goes into the pot not the outgoing fuel on the standard tanks, and is there to prevent the high pressure returning fuel from upsetting the still fuel already in the tank so its not really an alternative to a seperate swirl pot for supply fuel.

I fitted a new pattern tank which has the metal swirl pot inside, this was fine on track with about 1/4 fuel in the tank towards the end of a session.
The thing i dont like about the big box type race tanks is they are mounted very high in the car which cannot be great for the Centre of gravity. The ones that use the spare wheel well like what was in the Dick Johnson Sierra's would be my choice if i ever went down that route.
Note how low the feed from the bottom of the tank is.
that is what was worrying me when it was happening, so i would let off as soon as it happened,
that is my reason for not having a box tank in the car, i want the centre of gravity as low as possible.
i think i will get a fuel cell made up to go in the spare wheel well and have the outlet coming out of the bottom just like the pic you have showed me, no chance of fuel surge then
thanks for that mate
