The ford ones had a plastic swirl pot and the better aftermarket ones have a metal pot as shown above, the cheaper ones have nothing.

Also I am pretty sure its the returning fuel that goes into the pot not the outgoing fuel on the standard tanks, and is there to prevent the high pressure returning fuel from upsetting the still fuel already in the tank so its not really an alternative to a seperate swirl pot for supply fuel.
