Unlucky and sorry that it may have ruined your first race weekend. It's clear that provided you stay on line it is entirely up to the car lapping you to make their way past safely. There are always times when the odd driver can make life difficult but very unusual. I hit a backmarker once when leading a race by a decent margin at silverstone once. Even though the blue flags were out it was my fault for trying to pass thinking he would just get out the way. An expensive lesson learnt and one race I didn't win.
