as far as i'm aware you cant manually set anything on these engines as its all controlled by the ecu.

hawkeye, definately replace that vacuum hose as they collapse and cause a high idle. that hose is actually part of the crank case breather system and if you trace it forward you get to a 90 degree corner that goes onto the pcv valve located on top of the oil seperator on the front of the block. its worth replacing this valve (think £12 from ford) aswell as it can cause a high eratic idle too.

i replaced those and the idle control valve on my 1.6 mk6 escort when i had it and she ran like a dream after that. might be worth an ecu reset and a service too depending on when it was last serviced.
