road tax doesnt pay for local road repairs, the local councils do it. and the highways agency does the motorways and main dual carriageways. road tax is more for income to top up the treasury.
i recently reported a road with severe pot-holes to cambridge county council and they fixed all of them (properly) within a few days.
also reported a huge trench dug in the a14 at ipswich (during road works) which fucked 2 of my tyres (dont know if wheels are damaged yet) and they rung me straight up and fixed the trench the next day.
and i reported a knackered jet garage forecourt to Jet head office, who replied saying they have placed the order to resurface it.
moral of the story is, report the probs and then there is more chance of them getting fixed.
some of the roads i've seen will need totally resurfacing and when they eventually start doing all the works, traffic delays are going to be pretty bad (and knowing the authorities they'll do them all at the same time to maximise disruption).
