I'd guess that is down to the head porting mostly? We know stock manifolds are good for 350+ (not to say they cant be improved or course), what cam was that on?
Although as John says his head was Stage 3 (but thats normally big valve John?!), so maybe the manifolds make more of a difference than we think?!
Agreed mate dont think mine was big valve ss valves yeah,But the porting was really good on it i couldnt fault it all mate

I have a stage 2 now and the 3 was better ported

Flipping heck if inlet and exhaust manifold's do that much mate we should go down that route
