Well I decided to up date this post just as I use the search function a fair bit and I always wonder if people ended up fixing there problem they post about.

Took it to Woodford Garage in Totnes who put the problem down to a fried fuel pump relay. The plastic looked slightly melted but not that I would have really noticed but when you took it apart you could clearly see it was fried.

New fuel pump relay fitted and all seems well so far so fingers crossed!
