About a year ago I launched my 4x4 off a T-junction and all of a sudden there was a BIG bang followed by a noise and vibration like someone was hitting the bottom of the car with a hammer!!!
It aint funny when your engine mounts shear off and ends up ripping both front driveshafts out, mangling both of the cv joints.... Not to mention the large chunks that were taken out of the crossmember..... lucky they didnt have my brake pipes too!
The one good thing that came out of it though was the smile it put on my face once i'd fitted vibratechnics engine and gearbox mounts, a collins quickshift, powerflex cradle mount bushes and two new driveshafts which Collins Engineering uprated to Group A spec.
Launches 10x better now..... Accelerates better..... but most of all has improved stability when braking and cornering. Gears are a much shorter throw and feel more positive!
I've been told its common for the exhaust mount to go first because of the heat from the turbo.
The vibratechnics mounts are hard as rock.... I do notice a little difference in the car vibrating slightly, but only on start up, but the car generally feels alot more solid!!
If I bought another cossie again, it would be the first thing i'd change!!
