I have a MK4 Escort that is currently an 1.4 auto that has only done 55k and had two owners from new (one including me), the gearbox has just gone and I want to use this as an opportunity to do an engine and gearbox swap to make her a manual. The body work is in mint condition far to good to just scrap so I want to have her as a project. do you recommend any engine and gearbox that I can swap over without to much hassle? I was going to just find an XR3i as spares or repair and swap everything over.. would be nice to have something a little quicker but nothing stupid as she will just be a run around.
