Default CVH backing off...

Hi all, got a weird fault with my '90 carb fed CVH Escort 1.6 sport.
Every so often when under load, usually in 3rd/4rd gear, clog right down, it will begin to back of and bog itself down as if it is being starved of fuel. Usually by dipping the clutch and revving the engine, or sometimes dropping to a lower gear it will clear itself and carry one, however if you keep the foot in, it ill bog itself further and further down until its kangaroo-ing!

The ignition side can be ruled out i would imagine, as its not a regular fault, just as and when, but its had new coil, leads, plugs, diz cap and rotor arm as i had them given with the car so thought i may as well fit them and see if it helps. Only parts that weren't replaced were the ignition amplifier (cant remember if that comes off the dizzy seperate tho with out looking) and the dizzy itself.

If anyone has a suggestion before i start going through the fuel side one bit at a time, it would be great
