For a place I rent out i went to ikea - measured the kitchen, noting placement of wiring for ovens,plumping for sinks and washing machines and venting for the dryer etc.

They can help you plot it all out and even have a little model you can play around with to build it up.

Was a piece of pist, i got the red gloss finish:

double cubboard sink unit
built in oven carcus
2 single under cubboards
1 large corner cubbord with pull out racks
2 top cubbords and a carner unit cubbord
work tops
sink
taps
kicker boards
spot lights
blanking panels
legs and handles
soft close fittings

All for under £800

took me a morning to build all the base units and a day to fit it all in. To be honest the quality was very reasonable, my only niggle would be that the shells are all white so they do stand out a little against the red but if you bought wite then happy days.

No reason you couldn't take it apart and stick it in another area and add to it provided they still do the range, plus all the bits are interchangeable so you could fit all no doors for a new colour scheme - worktops would't work for this though I guess.
