having weighed it all up last year,i still dont regret buying the 220.yes it does drink and the cost of fuel isnt helping.but if you want something thats similar to the power of the 220 but just delivers it very differently then a ST tdci isnt such a bad idea.
despite all the running costs im still a petrol head at heart and i dont know if i could make the leap to diesel anytime soon.
but thats just it,your either a diesel kinda person or ....well,your not lol
the 220 may drink but its very refined to drive and sounds immense when you floor it.the power is smoothly delivered from the off to the redline and im someone who enjoys revving to unleash the power rather than letting all the torque shoe you along at half revs.a ST diesel feels sooooo different to drive and its something you either take to or not.
and im the latter when it comes to oil burners and thats no slating, just personal pref.
i came from an ST200 which wasnt a slouch but in comparison to the 220 it feels like coming from a heavy barge to something much more capable and sprinty and seeing as its also a very heavy ford,it never really feels it despite what most think.
the 220 in its stride on a motorway is a very quick car.totally comes into its own.you sit at top gear and rarely need to drop down to pull off or overtake.so i dont even see any loss for not having the torquey tdci version.
it also tops out at 150mph+ so its got nice long legs that makes it feel like the power is everywhere you need it.you might not use 150mpg but its got a ton of range with its power.
