As for technique, it varies depending on spec. If you have a relatively small/moderate turbo, you can hold the car at 20-25 odd MPH, then left foot brake to build boost. Helps greatly, but these huge turbo's don't allow you to do that, they just can't build boost that low down in that situation, so you just have to nail it.

There really is alot of skill to it. More, IMO, than a standing start.

The popular Evo gearsets don't allow 130mph in 4th (bloody close though, like 125mph), so there is an element of skill in building an engine that can deal with high RPM's, or getting the gearing just right.
