Default Rosssport/APT Evo Smashes MLR 30-130

Today was the annual MLR 30-130 sprint day and the last few months have seen the evolution of a pretty serious car.

Ross' car in it current guise has an Alloy Rod 2000cc 4G63 engine, with a GT42 turbo and 100 shot of NOS. It made just shy of 900bhp on our very tough DD Dyno last week, at 2.7 bar of boost.

First run out for Ross, as a practice run really, was good, the car looked and sounded fantastic and produced a couple of seemingly good runs, but with no timing gear on board. However, a missed shift saw 11,000rpm, a loose cambelt and probable bent valves.

Game over.

No.

Gary and Chris set about pulling it apart and decided to fit a new cambelt and get the car running again, whereupon it was discovered that it would run, so although the valves were possibly marginally bent, they weren't that bad.

First timed run saw a time of 6.65 seconds, better than Ross' time from last year, but not up to the low 6 second record currently held by Norris Designs Green Evo. Pretty despondant, but knowing that the car had felt so much better before the missed shift, Ross gingerly went out for another go and managed a completely mind-blowing time of 5.84 seconds.

Let's put that into perspective, this car didn't have flat-shift working and has a definate compression issue and still managed to smash the old record by around 1/3 of a second. The car really didn't look or sound as quick as it had on its earlier runs. It has a mid if not low 5 in it yet. Whether or not Ross will try any more remains to be seen.

AWESOME.
