The behaviour does sound like a lean hesitation and i've personally seen 3 or 4 ST170s with fuel pump faults. For what it's worth i'd certainley get a more accurate diagnosis, it needs the fuelling monitoring under load to confirm it is a leaning out problem.
Filter is relatively easy to change and not expensive, pump is more like £100 territory.
Try nearer £200. Think I was quoted about £170 but I was getting quite a bit of discount.
Mine had the same symptoms but turned out to be a faulty FPCM. £60 for the part in the end. Get it on a diagnostic machine to be sure.
