Could well be ignition fault, as if fuelling it would be a bit more gradual as it ran out.
Really need it to conk out, then check for a spark, output at ignition amp etc, could even be a dicky coil overheating, if you have any spares might be a good time to substitute bits to try to get to the cause.

i had the same prob on my old s2 came down to a coil overheating hope
you get it sorted
