Well dodgy if you ask me, and i wouldn't rely on any AV products to detect some particularly malicious software on a machine tbh.

Interestingly enough though, I have known Kaspersky (I think - might have been Symantec!) to do a similar thing for their Anti Virus products - i.e. after several failed updates or a similar issue, a remote chat window appears on your machine asking if you need help, and pending you granting access one of their tech support staff will take a look at your anti virus installation for you.
(IN the case I am thinking of, this was actually done to one of our IT managers who went to extraordinary lengths to verify that this "person" actualyl was who they said they were)
