electrics series 2 mfi
hi all
recently rebuilt a lump for a series 2 and it was fitted by another garage and they could not get it to run/idle and was blaming the engine builder so i took it upon myself to visit the garage to check it out coz i new the engine was fine on my arrival with a c02 machine waiting for me to use i found a few problems
1) amal valve lead/plug had been wired into the fans
2)cold start had aux device lead connected
3) cold start had had aux plug connected to it
well after doing all the checks and redone the plugs got the car up and running after taking the co2 from 10.58% to 2.% at idle, cam timing spot on and ignition timming set at 12degrees at 900rpm (standard hearts/diamond ecu standard cam )
i found after 10 mins at idle would start to run rough and die on restart using a strobe gun with pickup close to plug end of ht lead it missed badly but 2/3 of the way down the ht lead towards dizzy would be fine and registerd a constant spark
so i have replaced ht leads not coil to dizzy though yet
if left over night or allowed to cool right down it will do the same again
i have checked all contacts cleaned and replaced but still happing
i will be returning with a new coil and lead and another ecu but a bit puzzled as i new the car and engine before strip out and rebuild and ran fine
my plan is to replace the above parts and go through the earths as the car has had an in and out respray and want to make sure the earths are good
could the coil be at fault and breaking down after a short running
can you help please and put some ideas in my head
