My 1997 escort van 75 1.8d is very lumpy on first start up sounding a little as if it is running on 3 cylinders and is also puffing out quite a bit of white smoke, once warm the idle and running is fine with no smoke - any suggestions ??

I have recently changed, the heater plugs, air fuel and oil filters but this was due to poor starting.
