Some interesting 'facts' on here.
Ref the whole 3rd party thing.... if the car has no insurance on it you're still technically covered to drive it (if you have the 3rd party extension). However, once you step out the car you are committing the offence of leaving an un-insured vehicle on the highway, hence you'll get 6 points and a £100 fine.
Ref insurers not losing money, i won't bore you with too many figures, just that for every £1 the insurers get they are currently paying 78p just in PI claims. Factor in repair costs, theft payouts, staff wages etc and you can imagine their figures aren't that great.
