My Rs Turbo is officially a 3k DOG..
Hi all,
I bought a '91 FRST in November for 3 grand, its a really good looking, clean and genuine original motor - or so I thought.
After 10 days it broke down, and Ive had nothing but trouble with her since then, infact Ive had altogether 15 days use out of it in 3 months.
Im now looking for a little information. First of all, the standard camshaft. Is there a specific cam that belongs to the 1.6 turbo CVH engine, or is it correct that the 1296cc cam is the correct standard one for the car? Reason I ask is, that is what my local automotive store have told me it takes, so that is what was fitted. In 500 miles its mashed a new set of hydraulic lifters, and by the sound of it, the ones that were fitted yesterday are now failing too.
It also developed another issue, blue smoke when cold, but once warm this dissapears. I gather this is either piston rings, valve stems or turbo seals. I drove it back from where the new lifters were fitted, and had a large cloud of blue stuff come out the back whilst the engine was warm, and it has immediately started tapping and is now blue smoking all the time (obviously, Im not going to drive it anymore with this!) Can anyone confirm from these symptons what the problem is, obviously some seal somewhere just gave up the ghost!!!!
The car is officially a dog, a bloody expensive one at that! Im happy to keep throwing money at it as I need to get it right! Any advice on what I should be getting done to it would be greatly appreciated!!!
Scott.
