The fact it cut out would suggest it lost ignition/electrics.
With it now bumping no problem you know it's not fuel related, so need next to look at the solenoid feed at the starter.
When you turn the key it energises the solenoid on the starter to engage the starter and make it turn the engine, these get stuck, so give it a good clout first often works, but if no joy check for power on this connection, should be most likely black and blue, as black is(switched) live on fords.
If you bridge the two large connections on the starter, the two 13mm nut ones the starter will spin, but won't be engaged, as it needs the solenoid to throw out the starter pinion onto the flywheel.
If no power at the wire check from the switch etc.
