Cut the hole in the wall to a square, cut some plasterboard to the same size as hole, put a screw in the middle of the plaster board so u can hold it in place and move as neccasary and place it in the wall using small amount of filler on the sides to hold it, remove screw and skim over the top.

Had to do this a few times now
