Well, I was pulled in June last year, in my Luton. The plod were given the policy number and telephone number of the Insurer, by the person who had the trader's policy I am on, I am a named driver on the policy.
Plod then proceeded to ignore the Insurance details provided, and referred only to the MID. The reason that the van was not on the MID was that the numptys at the brokers had not put it on there! The firm has at least fifteen vehicles, and none of them were on it either!
Van was seized, went to the pound, I had a producer, which I did, then the following day I went to the pound to reclaim the van, WITH the insurance certificate that I was on as a named driver, and they let the van out without question. I also used the same Certificate a few days later to tax the van, again without question.
Just before Christmas, I get a summons out of the blue, charged with no insurance. I have pleaded not guilty by post, so they will have to send me another date for the hearing, but I have taken legal advice, and plod were in the wrong not to go to the insurer, as someone already mentioned in this thread, so I have a rock-solid case against them.
Am I going to claim expenses and personal financial loss? You bet I am!!
These coppers were the real know-it-all type, their attitude was, "If it's not on the MID it's not insured". The policy holder even offered to drive up to where I was (Sloane Street), to produce the Policy, but Plod said, "That won't do any good, anyone can run a fake certificate out on a laser printer these days".
Arseholes!
