I think china will probably prove in the longer term that capitalist communism is capable of operating a big country better than democracy can.
The 4 year setup we have over here means that NO long term policy is viable, we instantly castrate the people in power by having the next vote hanging so closely over them and leave them unable to do anything genuinely useful.
Definitely, it's always clearly counter intuitive even to a layman yet they're bare faced in making it vastly important and life defining. Only by fear mongering as much as they do, do they show how incredibly scared they are of us en mass...it really wouldn't take much to make them change all this, their economy is the fruits of this control, go at that they'll be crippled. We shouldn't be petitioning them on little issues they should be begging us for the oppurtunity of control.
Little fact here for those considering themselves valued voters or recognised citizens; we all have a serial number on our birth certificates (getting microchips now shock horror). Go onto the US stock exchange and any given serial number has a valued stock, we're currency.
China shows an effective method, but also deomstrates how oppressive things needs to be to operate 'succesfully' in modern times (media/economy driven as you say). Socially it's almost robotic already there...
