my friends car has gone down with a suspected engine ecu fault, the car is a 04 mondeo sci (1.8 petrol with 6 speed gearbox)

priced the ecu with ford and they want £800 + vat.

can anyone recomend a company that can test/repair the ecu or even offer a cheaper alternative?
