Yes the Type R has dccd but you never bother touching it really and the P1's gearing is more suited for our roads (type r quickly becomes tiresome) plus the P1 looks better std (nice front lip, rear spoiler and driving light, nicer seats) and most have better brakes than the type r's and more compliant suspension which is better suited to the UK roads.

I've had subarus for many years (and read lots) but I've never heard of the seizing bottom end thing. Yes, there's a lot of stories of bottom end faliures but to be honest I'd probably buy a P1 with a blown engine and fit a later STI bottom end and enjoy (the later bottom ends are much better) or just worry about it if/when it happens (which is what I've said to my mate who's just bought a P1)
The 2.5l with 20g must have been fun m8.
