Default Central Locking - Mondeo zetec 99

Hi

i have a problem with the central locking on my mondeo:

1999 V plate 1.8 Zetec

The remote key has been dodgy since i bought the car (12 months ago)...

Sometimes it would lock/unlock the car while sometimes i have to press it 10 times to get it to work - but using the key would always work in the drivers door, both to operate that door and also operate the central locking.

now the remote has stopped working completely and doesnt even operate the boot release.

I would normally assume this to be the remote battery, but the fact that it has been dodgy for a full 12 months casts some doubt on that for me.

Also, now when i use the key in the drivers door, it doesnt operate the central locking - only that one door. Also, if i sit inside the car, and press the drivers door handle in, it will lock that door and that door only.

However if i use the key in the passenger door, it opreates the central locking and locks ALL doors including the drivers side door. the same happens if i sit inside the car and press the passenger handle in.

Obviously the first thing i will do is change the battery in the remote. But thought id ask for advice here first so i have an idea what else may be the problem.. im not sure where the receiver may be, or even if there is a fuse/relay that would affcet that one door? (and the boot - hmmm)

any help much appreciated! thanks
