Pearl Jam were good in their day, but take Nirvana as the best example. People still think of them as one of the best grunge acts, but musically the Foo Fighters eclipse them. I was one of the biggest Nirvana fans back in the days where they played gigs in local venues to me where only about 100-200 people bothered to turn up.

Looking back, I still say there are countless modern acts that are easily as talented as them. Lee, although you say you like music of all types, your favourite music does seem to be all in that grunge/alternative rock genre and maybe its just seen its day?
