MattRS1600i is correct, hes even got the name right (do you know what that is in english? ive always wondered). The MK3 escort RS1600i was possibly the first production car (defo THE first ford anyway) to run a computer controlled ignition system. Otherwise everything at that time used to run dizzy and coil set up which your talking about.
The ECU you on your car controls the Fuel injection system, in which the injectors are electronically operated, whereas the old MFi system was mecanically operated/controlled.
