The water pump issue is over-exaggerated, and seems to only affect the earlier cars. I can only presume that the later plastic impellers were made of tougher stuff..

I did a bit of reading about these cars and the ST200 will have the metal water pump, it was only the early ST24 MK2 that had the plastic type.
My 2000 ST200 had plastic.

The 'dreaded tick' is common on V6 Mondeos. If it's the head gasket then it won't cause any harm in the short term, but it could render the block and head scrap if it's neglected. But mine had the 'tick', so when I broke it I took the heads off to check, and they were fine, so the tick was something else, most likely the exhaust manifold gasket.
