Hello everyone, after recently buying a BMW 316I SE as a run about car and im thinking about as getting a “ summer Sunday car” that has a lot of power and can have some fun with. Ive always like the escort RS Turbo and have heard some great things about them. So I have a few questions first and would appreciate if any one could help me out.
How much would I be looking to pay for a half decent escort RS turbo, minimal rust, no major problems ( im not expecting 100% perfect from a 18+ year old car ). Ideally I would like under 80K mileage buy may consider around 90K as I know they are older cars. So what would be a rough price for a good conditioned and look after car with that sort of mileage, im willing to look all over the UK.
What are some of the common problems with these cars? Ive heard rust is a problem, so how do I treat this and other problems ? And prevent them from happening again?
Like I sayed above I wont a lot of power. Before getting the BMW I was looking at EVOS, Subarus etc but as a run about car it wasnt appropriate. Have also been looking to get one instead of the RS Turbo but they are too common these days. So heres my plan for when I get the car,
Treating any problems, rust etc, then getting full service, oil and belts changed etc
I will then put it in for a full respray
After that im looking to get some nice power gains from it, heres what im thinking: induction kit, 4 inch straight through exhaust, de cat pipe, stage 1 chip, -31 actuators, blow off valve, silicone hoses, large front mount intercooler, performance camshaft, hybrid turbo ( or biggest turbo to get most power ), upgraded fuel injectors, up graded fuel pump, stage 2 or 3 chip, forged pistons, steels rods, 100-200 hp of nitrous.
Ive probally missed some things ( yes I will be putting on bigger brakes etc ) and have had some help from tuners etc to get the most power that I can from the car. Ive heard of cars running with well over 250 bhp some even 300 bhp well im looking around there before the nitrous is engaged.
How much power is achievable from these especially with the mods above or would I maybe not even need all of them? One of my mates has a 380 bhp evo 4 and the other a 380 bhp subaru sti, i would like to be able to beat them both, maybe not on 0-60 due to the 4wd vs fwd but you never know but would definatly like to beat them further up.
Sorry for the long post but would like to get as much information as possible before I buy one.
Thanks very much
