i know bikes have come along since then and so have cars but the fact is that at the time the vid was made the r1 was the fastest bike around and being ridden by a british champ against a porche 911 carrera 4 which was not the fastest car at the time and was driven by a touring car driver who was not a british champ at the time

cars will never beat bikes in the least money for max speed stakes
i know how much fun they can be and how dangerous too as i have the scars to prove it, rode moto x from the age of 3 and have a nice 5inch wide round exhaust pipe burn on my leg + many other smaller scars, id hate to ride a bike and have a off on the road, its happened to a few mates and 2 of them were lucky they were not killed
My neighbor who was like an uncle to me growing up has always been really into bikes. He helped me when I got my first trials bike...and still fixes my stuff to this day

.
He was mainly a moto x guy but started riding road bikes when I was young. Him and a few local guys(quite a small community so everyone knows each other) used to go for blasts on a Sunday afternoon etc. One day 3 of them were out and the two at the front noticed the one at the back wasn't with them anymore. Turns out he had been killed a few miles back when overtaking a car that was turning right. Totally destroyed my neighbor and he's not been interested in road bikes since. The guy that died was only in his late 20s.
Offroad bikes defo the way to go for fun. I mean you can break bones etc, but the chances of being killed are much slimmer. usually on the road it's the cars that cause accidents. Saying that, a car driver could look in their mirror and see nothing, and then the next second there's a bike flying by! Lol
