has anyone wired the dim control on an alpine?.

i'm asking because i'v just put an alpine into my mondy and i connected the dim control wire to the dim wire in the dash (as says in my haynes manual diagram), but it's obviously not working it has dim control on the unit i checked that first but lights go on and there isn't a change has anyone else encountered this, some advice would be grateful.
