iirc series 1 doesn't have rear load valves like s2,

try clamping all the brake hoses with brake hose clamps, if you then get a decent pedal then remove the clamps 1 at a time when the pedal goes crap again thats the corner your fault lies

Are the rear brake shoes correctly adjusted?

can you give any more info of the spec of brakes and the fault?
