I just bought a 1984 323i. I don't know a great deal about them really. I was told to check the battery tray area and then just looked at all the normal places. Mine is starting to go on the join of the rear panel below the rear bumper. I also drove a 320i the other day, I found the engine pretty gutless. The 323 engine seems ok, but is no rocket.
