Even on gay wheel drive (FWD ) cars you dont need the handbrake except for the tightest of turns and even then a single sharp tug of the handbrake and handbrake back off again should be all you need to swing the rear round. On my old fiesta and puma thats all i did, a single tap of the handbrake after sharp turn in and lift off and the back end swings right round on its own leaving both hands free to steer out of the turn as you feed in the power to the wheels.
my old mk2 fezer did it by it's self.. the thing was fookin brilliant in the snow. so controllable..

wish i still had it tho.
