Okay, test drive time.
Have just driven to work. Started the car, let the ABS perform its self-test as per always. Lights go out. Drive off down the road and am doing approx. 40mph for about 3 miles. Slow down for a set of traffic lights (to about 25mph) and then accelerate (reasonably hard to about 3/4 throttle) as the lights change to green. Look down @ the speedo and the ABS light comes on while I am accelerating around 35mph.
The light then stays on for a further 3 miles with no adverse braking conditions.
I pulled to a stop around the corner from work and switched the engine off. Waited 3 seconds and then restarted the engine. The ABS performed its self-test and the light went out within 2-3 seconds. Drove down the road around 20mph and the ABS light started coming on and going off about 3 times in 300-500 yards before going out just before I stopped.
Upon stopping, the pedal pulsed as if the ABS was kicking in, but no light on the dash. Parked the car and checked the pump and reservoir. Reservoir is @ its normal level of just over the max. mark and the pump was cold to the touch.
