This sounds as said above the fuse on the right above the pedals there is a couple of relays there as well.

Used to get this on my car, the hand brake light would come on and you would get about 2 presses of the pedal then it would be solid, the cause on mine was water/rain leaking through under the fuse box and drip into the fuse holder as meantioned above.
